House-sitting

July 20, 2009

This week, I am doing something that I’ve always wanted to do–I’m house sitting. And, for it to be honestly perfect, I am house-sitting for my aunt and uncle (Kelly and Trent). Their house is adorable and so is their puppy. πŸ™‚

Bit is probably the coolest thing about house-sitting, and I’m really liking this house-sitting gig, so that’s saying something. She’s adorable! See:

bitand very well trained. And she likes blankets (a dog after my own heart) and to either jump around and be playful, or snuggle and watch a movie.

Speaking of movies, Kelly and Trent have the Rodgers and Hammerstein collection, all of the star wars movies, a slew of Disney movies, and the Indiana Jones movies. Also, they left their Hastings card and I rented All the Days Before Tomorrow and How About You to watch yesterday with Philip (he had to leave after the first movie, but I liked them both :D). Tonight I am watching Raiders of the Lost Ark and I’m very excited about it.

Friday I got settled in, got acquainted with Bit, which took awhile, and had wild mushroom risotto for dinner–yum!

and Saturday I had coffee with my mom before taking her to the airport and then I had lunch at Olive Garden with my dad and watched a few episodes of 16 And Pregnant with my amazing step sister. Then I went home and watched the King and I and The Sound of Music and Treasure Planet with Bit πŸ™‚ And played on the Wii.

Sunday I had my dad fix my brakes and watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Then I ate appetizers and dessert for lunch at Chilis with Philip (yum!) and watched those movies we rented. And took a bath in the jacuzzi tub. Did I mention that before? Yes, it’s pretty much amazing.

Tonight, I think the Wii is in order, with a bath, and writing that fiction piece and beginning my statement of purpose (yuck!). Time to get down to business, but this weekend was super fun and I’m glad that I decided to do this for the week.

I’m also glad that a Starbucks is about five minutes from their house, and on the way to work. So now it is work time, and I’m going back to my white chocolate mocha πŸ™‚

Have a lovely day, and week, peeps. I know I will.

We haven’t really had time to talk much about your experience watching the house. I’m just glad that you enjoyed yourself so much. You never did say how the wild mushroom risotto turned out. When we heard what you had your aunt and I laughed. We had stocked the fridge with a chicken, and lunch meat, and you seemed drawn to the most obscure item in the pantry. That is so you. You have to stop by on your next trip through Benton, we have some stuff for you…. and I’d like my hastings card back =P

Thanks for writing about housesitting. I have tried all the housesitting websites and have found http://www.caretaker.org to be the best for housesitting assignments. I recently started using http://www.caretaker.org and have found two housesitting assignments there so far.
