Song Saturday: Motivation

August 9, 2014

Last week at this time I was running around LeakyCon, helping with signings and making sure special guests got to their panels and such on time (as well as helping with various programming things).

Usually I come home from LeakyCon with a sinking feeling that I might be the least talented/successful/pretty/intelligent human alive. Not so much this year. I think part of that is because I have a lot more self esteem going into the conference this year than I ever have before, and it’s partly because these staff members that I admire have become friends; the attendees that I empathize with have become peers; the special guests that make me so nervous are finally just other people feeling sometimes-small.

So when I had a few moments where someone tried to make me feel small, I had this particular song in my head by The Band Perry. Because you know what? I don’t have to deal with that kind of attitude just because I am nice.

And because I had that kind of country anthem rocking through my head for most of LeakyCon (especially Friday/Saturday), I finished the conference with my head held high for the very first time. It was a lovely feeling, and one that I definitely want to repeat.

This week, however, I had to return to reality. And let’s face it, I complain about my reality a lot. I talk a lot of game about my goals without having time to work towards them, and I am creating obnoxious schedules and ridiculous deadlines so that I can really start moving forward.

While I do, I like to pretend that I am the kind of diva that could sing this song at the drop of a hat. Because I love Idina Menzel.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming sometime next week, but I do have a LeakyCon wrap up post coming your way soon. Until then, have a lovely week!
